Folks that abuse unchecked_conversion like this get what they deserve. Perhaps, though I doubt many would see it that way. But the more significant point is that VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR occurs in generated trees for lots of operations, such as object-oriented stuff, that we do want to operate efficiently.
