Thanks for the feedback David and Zack.  I checked the latest release of 
GMP (4.1.2), and it has not been modified yet.  I'll see if there's 
somewhere I can pull the latest from CVS.

If not, I'll submit them a patch against 4.1.2, and see how that goes.  
I'll try to work with them to get something that works for everyone.
