Hi,

in the meantime I have actually checked how the std::min
changes affect the generate code for the various 'find':
it becomes worse :( Therefore, I'm reverting those bits.

Unrelated, often the return value of _M_check it's not
needed and can be discarded thus saving an assignment.

Tested x86-linux, committing to mainline.
