[V3] Bring back to automake 1.8.5

A recent patch 
(http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2004-08/msg00079.html), assumely 
accidently, downgraded the automake version used to 1.7.9.

This patch brings it back to 1.8.5.  Bootstrapped 
powerpc-apple-darwin6.8.  Committed as obvious.
