I don't know either. I have planned for some time to look at what the Sun 
Forte compiler does in conjunction with VIS. I'll try in the next few days.

I think that the back-end should at least be able to handle function 
parameters that have vector modes. Currently it simply ICEs on them.

This would first mean devising a minimal vector ABI.
