OK.  I don't have time in the short term -- and if we're going to
move the patches to the branch we need to do it soon.  (There are
a lot of patches now, and we have to assume we'll screw it up the
first time we move them over.)

If we don't move them, it's not a crisis; we shipped 3.1 without them,
of course, and the world didn't stop spinning.
