You *do* mean the
#if FFECOM_targetCURRENT == FFECOM_targetGCC
stuff, don't you ?
I believe this is because Craig originally wanted to do much more with
the Fortran front end than just compiling ... He envisioned it as a
multi-purpose tool to write a Fortran aware editor, for instance.
