Thanks.  I've just finished installing the patches.  I attached a
tar-file with the exact patches I installed, for the record; the only
changes from the previously-posted patches was removing some changes
that canceled out and moving some dependencies of those changes
earlier.  I ended up merging patches 3 and 4 into a single patch.
There was not much sense in keeping patch 3 stand-alone, as it
introduced a testsuite regression and a feature regression, both fixed
with patch 4, so I made them a single unit.

I'm starting working on lang hooks now.
