Why would you want to do that? The right option for as from the binutils
around version 2.11.90.0.27 is -m7400 (undocumented) while -maltivec is
unknown.

Also you have to be careful since this version doesn't know all altivec
mnemonics. The version on my machine (and all SuSE 7.3 users) has
special patches to add them but I've been told that the latest snapshots
of binutils have a different patch applied that adds them.
(Though I still have to figure out why my patch is/was considered to be
wrong)....
