Yah, but the patch was prepared last week.  More seriously, I haven't been
able to get a non-GNU build working correctly.  I wanna see it work out
of the box before I (myself) remove that paragraph, although of course
others may see fit to remove it before I do.  (There's a couple places
where this requirement is mentioned.)
