SUN make and gcc 3.0

Yes, it should.

Actually, it was the other way around. GCC was supposed to build with
non-GNU makes all the time (apart from bugs in our Makefiles and those
implementation).  Now the possibility to *require* (instead of recommend)
GNU make was considered and rejected.

Specifically, GCC 3.0 should build with Sun make (Solaris 8?) if this
is possible, so, yes, please put those patches that have been approved
on the branch.

PS: After that, are we still missing pieces that are required for a build
with Sun make?
