gas misoptimizes gcc3 .eh_frame

I don't quite understand.

It sounds like unless you have a CVS version of GAS, you'll get bad
code.  Does your configury patch gives us a work around for old broken
versions of GAS, so that they will work too, or will they still be
broken?

I definitely agree with you that we should not maintain weird
workarounds forever.
