No, not something Tom broke. The in-soruce dir build now gets
further and breaks at this new point. AFAICT sorry for being
unclear -- Tom, I really appreciate your work on the config stuff.

Anyway, although Tom has fixed two problems with in-source dir
building, there remains at least one more.
