There are two issues here:
    (1) Is this patch OK to merge to branch?
    (2) Should the wording of the patch to extend.texi be changed?

I'm not sure how to deal with (2), maybe the author
of the patch, DJ Delorie, would like to comment.

I would like clarification of (1).
