it certainly worked for me on Solaris 8 when I last bootstrapped, and
didn't do any harm on Tru64 UNIX V4.0F or V5.1 either.  Unfortunately, last
night's bootstrap on Solaris 8 fails to execute most Objective C tests with
the following error:

	objc runtime: cannot find class Object

I haven't yet investigated if this is related to this patch.

Besides, there's a report by Nicola Pero

	http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2001-03/msg00199.html

that the patch breaks the bycopy-3 test on i686-pc-gnu-linux.  I've no way
to try this myself, but probably someone who knows both Objective C and the
details of PIC code generation ought to look at the problem before applying
this part of my patch.
