Sigh - the stuff in the f/ directory was never written with the prospect
in mind that it would have to conform to K&R I syntax / semantics ...
Is this failure due to the fact that LANGUAGES doesn't work anymore (but
--enable-languages does) ?
Or is something else amiss ?
I really really am not prepared to put time into *this* (I'd rather fix
real bugs ...)
