   I agree the error message is better than crashing, and I agree we
   should understand the overhead.  How often is the enable stack code
   called?  Once per function call, once per nested function call,
   once per program invocation?  Something else?

It does at least remember that's it's done the mprotect() call on
the stack after the first time.
