Yes.  When you read the online copyright file, unless otherwise stated, the
assignment applies to the changes that we made at that time.  No more, no
less.

If someone is assigning future changes, it'll say so explicitly.  Similarly
for past changes.

OK.  Hopefully we'll get the copyright situation sorted out, then move
forward on David's patches again.
