Doh.  Clearly I wasn't bootstrapping with --enable-checking=rtl.
Fortunately the embarrasment seems to end there, since I didn't
do anything with the bogus data.

The patch was of course ok; careful with the accidental checkins
though.  It went in with your epilogue_done change.
