Perhaps because FreeBSD does not use GNU sed but a sed of its own?

I noticed that your mail appears in the list archive on the web (plus
it also arrived in my EGCS Inbox via the mailing list), so it seems that,
despite any error message you have received, your mail went through.

I did an egcs_update and another bootstrap and indeed these problems are
gone. Thanks a lot!
