Um, actually, no.  I did not see the same problem you are.  One
possible explanation is relative build tree differences.  I have

  $prefix/egcs/		(for source)
  $prefix/build/axp/	(for objects)

A single up-level might be kind of working?  Or am I on the wrong track?

In that I wonder if this can be done cleanly with headers at all, yes.  ;-)
