FWIW, it is not a dependance on GNU libc.  These functions are present
in all of the Digital runtime libraries as well.  I'm surprised you are
not getting them from one of the nt system dlls.

Nevertheless, it's not a bad thing to have these available for some
hypothetical embedded alpha part.
