Best practice for linking against libatomic?

Yes, gcc 12 is involved here.

Is that the only compiler we need to worry about (i.e. we ignore the 
problem and wait for it to go away once Debian bookworm is unsupported), 
or does it still make sense for packages to provide an appropriate 
configure script?
