./configure --with-dwarf3

Will it be enough to change "Init(4)" to "Init(3)" in gcc/common.opt in
block:

    gdwarf-
    Common Joined UInteger Var(dwarf_version) Init(4) Negative(gstabs)
    Generate debug information in DWARF v2 (or later) format.
