Debugging test failure during SLES 12 build

I'm trying to debug a gfortran test failure (realloc_on_assign_5)
that happens only when building the build script for SLES 12.
Unfortunately it leaves a core dump, but no executable to test,
and builtding the packet with rpmbuild does not trigger the test
failure, and any executables built manually neither fail nor match
the core file.

Does anybody have a hint how to tackle this situation?  From
looking at the core dump I believe it's necessary to step through
program execution to see what happens.
