:: not recognized in 4.1.1

My code is as below  
   bmdbFile& bmdbFile::operator=(      // assignment operator
      const bmdbFile& v                   // source bmdbFile
    );

However, the :: is not recognized by the gcc version 4.1.1 
What shall i changed it to?
