Q: -g and debugging symbol

1.
compile without debugging option
gcc foo.c

2.
compile with debugging option
gcc -g foo.c
then strip out debugging symbol
strip foo.out

Q
Why those result binaries are different?
second one is much smaller in size
I can set brakepoint with first one with gdb (didn't compiled with debugging
option), but not second one.
I guess some dubugging information is included even without debugging
option.
Is there any compile option that makes first and second one same?
