Failure building gcc 4.4.1

Kevin,
What would happen if you uninstalled the older version of libtool,
reconfigured, and reran the "make" command? Would the libtool version
numbers match then?

gcc-4.4.1.tar.bz2, unpacked binutils-2.19.1.tar.bz2 into the same
directory, unpacked gmp and mpfr (latest releases of each) and renamed
the directories to plain 'gmp' and 'mpfr'. I then created a build
directory parallel to the source directory, and ran
