EB40 eval board unresolved symbol

hi, im trying to get my Atmel AT91 EB40 eval board working with arm-elf-gcc.
ive got the headers from the CD that came with the board, and cannot get a
program to compile.

every time i try to compile a sample program from the CD, the linker
complains about the symbols:
PIO_DESC
at91_pio_write
at91_pio_read

has anyone got any ideas about this?
