Build Failure for gcc 4.2.2

Now I'm getting a build failure on an old FC 2 box running gcc-4.1.1.

So now I'm 2 for 4 on building 4.2.2 on four varied systems (not
counting failed forays into 4.2 and 4.3 snapshots):

 + AMD (dual) /FC 2 - success
 + AMD (64x2)/F7    - failure
 + Intel/F7               - success
 + Intel/FC 2            - failure

Looking for reasons why the build may fail when all four systems are
configured basically the same with all prerequisites installed.

BTW, I'm using bash and CONFIG_SHELL is set to /bin/bash.
