gcc on 64 bits machine

Hi,

Can you please tell me can I use gcc 3.4 to compile a binary on a 64
bits machine? or I need to use gcc 4.1? I am running Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4 and it comes with a gcc 3.4. Can I just use that to
compile a 64 bits binaries?
