What is translation unit

IIRC correctly, a translation unit is the input that goes through 
the preprocess-parse-codegeneration cycle.

That means all of the cpp inputs of

  g++ foo.cpp bar.cpp baz.cpp -o foobarbaz.o

are translation units.
