no fortran compiler

I think I am doing something wrong.  I downloaded gcc-4.1.0.tar.bz2 from
mirrors.laffeycomputer.com.  I installed it according to the installation
instructions with no errors.  When I type "gcc test.f" at the command
prompt, I get "gcc: test.f: Fortran compiler not installed on this
system".  I thought gfortran was included in this release of GCC.  Any
ideas on what I did wrong?
