g++ compiler options for code spanning multiple lines

hi ,
 I am compiling C++ code for VxWorks. Many parts of my code span mulitple 
lines.
Do i need to specifically add an "\" for continuing the next line.Currently 
i am not using it, but the code compiles except for one instance , where if 
i put "\" there is a successfull compilation.

The same code without "\" compiles successfully under Rational Rose 
Realtime(build for solaris) which uses g++.
