changing MXUNIT

Hi

I'm trying to use some software that requires a MXUNIT number of 
9999, rather than the standard 99. The software documentation shows 
how this can be done by editing a line in libf2c/libI77/fio.h in gcc 
version 2.95.
This directory and file seem to have disappeared in newer versions. 
Is there another place to edit MXUNIT, or has this become an 
non-issue in newer gcc versions?
