These days I just use "make" without the "bootstrap" part and good things 
happen.

If that doesn't solve the problem, there are two other bits of info that 
may help us debug what is biting you...

Exactly how did you invoke configure, what C compiler (and version) are 
you using to build gcc, and are you being a good boy and building it 
outside of the source tree like the instructions say.
