-pthread in gcc 3.2

Hi,

I have gcc 3.2 installed on HPUX11.11.
but gcc -pthread gves an warning. what may be the cause. as gcc -v shows 
thread model as POSIX.
how can i replace -pthread with appropiate libraries and defines.
