problem at configure for alphaev56-dec-osf4.0f

Dear Sirs:

Please, I am trying to install gcc-3.3.1 at my alphaev56-dec-osf4.0f, but
just at the configure stage, I get the following error message:

checking for volatile... yes
checking for long double... yes
checking for long long int... yes
checking for __int64... yes
checking for built-in _Bool... no
checking size of short... configure: error: cannot determine a size for
short
Configure in /usr/local/src/objdir/gcc failed, exiting.

why occurs this? I was searching for this at internet but I cannot get very
much information, so I hope at this list someboy can help me,
