unsupported relocation error when compiling for thumb

I'm getting an internal error: unsupported relocation error when I 
compile my project for thumb but no problems when compiling for ARM 
mode. It seems a while back somebody was having the same problem.

Currently using:
binutils 2.11.2
newlib 1.10.0
gcc 3.3.2
