Question compiling old c++ code

Hi,

I have some old c++ code that compiled under gcc-2.95.3.  However, it will 
not compile under gcc-3.2.2.

The problem is the code uses streambuf functions base() allocate() 
out_waiting() and blen().  These functions no longer exist.  Does anyone 
know if there are equivalent streambuf functions in gcc-3.2.2?
