safe to concat object files

Hi all,

I was wondering it is safe to concat(onate) a bunch of object files together in
GCC. Will the linker still be able to appropriately find all the references?

I ask this out of curiousity. The build system we have here at work has a large
number of subdirs. The makefiles compile each dir. Concat all the object files
and then copy the combined object file to a 'link' directory. Where linking is
done.

Is this safe with GCC? Is it safe generally speaking?

Thanks,

Yamin
