Hi David,

Most Unix file systems accept ANY character for a filename, EXCEPT 
two:  null and slash.

So if you encode your filenames with UTF8, and present them as UTF8 (after 
checking that it's valid UTF8 ... otherwise presume 8859-1), you should be 
fine.
