Linux Portability Issues

Hello,

I wrote one project in C lang using mysql. The software is running 
fine on RH Linux 7.1.

But when I am shifting the source code to other machine of almost 
same specifications with RH Linux 9.0, the segmentation fault 
occurs.

After debugging it is showing fault as follows --

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x42061367 in fclose@@GLIBC_2.1 () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6
(gdb)                                                        

Now what can be the reason for the fault as it was running 
successfully on RH linux 7.1 system. How to solve it, please 
explain step by step and what one must consider while writing a 
program for portability issues??
