Space optimisation: unreferenced functions

Hi Experts.

Is there a way to get Gcc (2.95.1 for Hitachi h8s) to remove functions
that are not called or referenced in any way? (currently I'm using 02
optimization but I'm desperately running out of room)

If not, is there a nice tool that will give you a list of functions that
are never referenced?
