.rodata.str1.4 and other gcc sections

Does anybody know what the section "rodata.str1.4" is for? Are there
any other sections of the same pattern (rodata.strN.M)? Is there a
document describing what sections are produced by gcc for every
target?

I'm using gcc-3.2 with binutils-2.12 as a cross-compiler hosted on
ix86-linux and targeting arm-linux.
