Having problems in compiling the include statement.

I have declared a header file named crypto.h. Now when
I add the include statement:
"#include "crypto.h" to my "crypto.cpp file", it does
not compile the former include statement and instead
says something like:
#include excepts "FILENAME" or <FILENAME>.
I have tried it both ways by giving the name in double
quotes and in the brackets, but somehow it doesnt
recognize the double quotes and gives the error. I
keep the header and the cpp files in the same
directory.
I am using the gcc version with mandrake 9.1, I guess
it is the newest version of gcc. Please advise.
