re-compiling GCC 3.2 after (Linux) kernel update ?

Hi,

does GCC 3.X take stuff from /usr/src/linux that require GCC 3.x to be 
built again against an updated kernel ? Or is it okay to go, e.g. from 
2.4.18 to 2.4.19 and keep on using the GCC 3.2 built under 2.4.18 ?
