Multiply Defined Symbols

I am using GCC 3.0.1 to build a shared object on Solaris 8. The compilation
goes fine, but when I try to link, I get tons of multiply defined errors.
For example:
ld: fatal: symbol `std::strrchr(char*, int)' is multiply-defined:
(file src/utils/command.o and file src/utils/hash.o);
All of the multiply defined symbols are from standard include files (i.e
strrchr, strcasecmp, operator+....), they are not symbols from source files
that I wrote.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Matt
