__asm Syntax

..thought some of u might be knowing this..
i am looking for the syntax / various arguemnts that
__asm() can take.
for ex: to copy a register in to local variable
__asm("mov %0,ra" : "=&r" (variable_name)); 
can some one point me to a link that states the syntax
or some kind of description on some generic usage of
__asm ?
I am interested esp in MIPS stuff
