GCC-3.0.3 installation help

I am trying to build gcc-3.0.3 on a Sun SPARC box
running Solaris 8.

I first installed the pre compiled gcc-3.0.3 and
binutils which was fine.

I then started the compilation process of the gcc
source.
The configuration stage works fine, but when I go to
build it i.e. make bootstrap, it fails almost
immediately with a number of warnings and the last
messages of: 

make[1]: *** [argv.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
'/usr/local/gcc-3.0.3/libiberty'
make: *** [all-libiberty] Error 2.
